Os algoritmos me apresentaram um livro chamado Golden - the power of silence in a world of noise que corrobora todos os meus instintos e anseios.

🇬🇧Inhale and count to three. Now exhale slowly, counting to three. Would it be too much to ask you to close your eyes before continuing and also count to three? Let's go. I wait for you here. 1, 2, 3.
I started 2024 with my eyes closed, paying attention to my breathing. For 10 days, 11 hours a day. Without being able to speak, without access to books and, obviously, without a cell phone. It was on a Vipassana meditation course in Santana de Parnaíba, near São Paulo. The method is straightforward: get rid of the impurities of the mind through concentration on breathing and observing noble silence. If you don't go crazy, you leave floating on a pink cloud, which turns into rain on the 11th day as soon as you turn on your cell phone, start your car and enter the highway.
I confess that I love these retreats. They work like a bath for the spirit and a pause for the mind. Even back in everyday life, something remains preserved. There is a space of protection and calm somewhere in my mind that I can go into when I need to. It is to defend and expand this space that I return frequently to Dhamma Sarana, immersed in the rain forest, next to the ugliness of Barueri and Osasco.
It does me so much good that I wish many friends would attend. These 10 days are a shuffle of thoughts, traumas and memories. However, I only promote. I don't insist, because it's not easy at all. I know that, at certain times, my friends will hate me for putting them in that space of physical and mental torture. Yes, there are moments when it is torture, interspersed with wonderful ones. Just like life, you know?
I left full of good intentions and great New Year’s resolutions. I pressed play and 2024 began to roll without mercy. The algorithms presented me with a book called Golden - the power of silence in a world of noise that corroborates all my instincts and desires. Silence heals. I swear. I recommend both the book and silence.
Being silent for so long living with so many other people (we were 40 men on the male side) makes clear the size of the megaphone that our inner voice has, the one that only thinks about bad things, that criticizes us all the time, that incites us to eat chocolate, drink another glass of wine or light another cigarette. But hearing it so powerfully helped me turn down the volume with Vipassana techniques. That alone was worth the 6 hour drive there plus the 6 hours back (and the 110 hours of meditation).
This was January's big trip, ideal for facing the next 11 months. The yearning for post-retreat calm clashes with pre-retreat travel plans. I'm embarking soon on a five-week trip around the world when all I'd like is to take refuge on the farm until Easter. But I learned never to complain about traveling. The details and itinerary will drop in the next letters. Until then, bye bye and lots of Ommmmmm… 🕉️
