Sinto-me como Jano, olho pra trás, olho pra frente e não me lembro de nada | I feel like Janus, looking backwards, forwards and forgetting it all.

🇧🇷Fim do ano sempre me casou certa angústia. Desde pequeno sinto um aperto no peito durante essa época de festas, presentes, resoluções de ano novo e mensagens amorosas. Lidar com o clima de despedida do ano que passou junto com as expectativas do que chega me transtorna profundamente. Se fosse possível, gostaria de dormir no dia 20/12 e acordar no dia 02/01. Melhor ainda no dia 15/01, logo após o meu aniversário.

Mas enquanto puder saltar, estou feliz | I'll be happy if able to keep on jumping.

Na correria pré-Natal, ainda tive uma curtíssima passagem pelo Appenzell, na Suíça, para comemorar os 60 anos de um amigo no topo de uma montanha nevada. Foi incrível, mas sair dos 34 graus curitibanos para os 2 graus suíços, mesmo que por pouquíssimos dias, me pasteurizou a alma. Estou alimentando-a com panetone para ressuscitá-la.

2023 foi o primeiro que programei por completo, ainda em 2022. Fiz uma planilha com datas de viagem, feriados, projetos e segui-os à risca durante os 12 meses. Quem me lê faz tempo acompanhou as aventuras pelo Caribe, Suriname, Belém do Pará, Japão, Chipre e Coreia. Foi também um ano de recorde de leituras. Li 105 livros, 60% escritos por mulheres, parte da curadoria da Amora Livros. Em 2024 não tenho muita coisa programada além do Carnaval.

Sei que vou conhecer ao menos um país novo. Sei que vou ler muitos livros bons. Sei que vou passar bons e maus momentos. É sempre assim, e que assim seja. Enquanto estiver por aqui, todos os meses vai ter esta cartinha para você. Gosto de entrar na tua caixa de emails só para avisar que sigo vivo. Não gostaria de ser esquecido. Parte do que me motiva a escrever a TravelVince News é minha dificuldade em fazer telefonemas, marcar encontros online, postar com frequência no Instagram. Sou demasiado analógico e prefiro esperar dois anos para sentar com você num café ou restaurante e conversar face a face.

Obrigado por me acompanhar em 2023. Se chegou há pouco, prometo viagens incríveis e contos interessantes em 2024. Gosto de misturar ficção com a vida real afinal, a realidade nua e crua é muito chata (e dura). Por isso vivo nas entrelinhas, onde tudo é possível e as palavras dão conta do recado.

🇬🇧The end of the year always gave me a certain anguish. Since I was little, I've felt a tightness in my chest during this season of parties, gifts, New Year's resolutions and loving messages. Dealing with saying goodbye to the past year along with the expectations of what’s yet to come deeply upsets me. If it were possible, I would like to sleep on Dec 20th and wake up on Jan 2nd. Even better on January 15th, right after my birthday.

In this pre-Christmas rush, I had a very short trip to Appenzell, Switzerland, to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday on top of a snowy mountain. It was incredible, but going from 34ºC in Curitiba to 2ºC in Switzerland, even if for just a few days, pasteurized my soul. I'm feeding it panetone to try to revive it.

É o que desejo para mim e para todos.

2023 was my first fully-programmed year. Already in 2022 I made a spreadsheet with travel dates, holidays, projects and followed them accordingly during the last 12 months. Those who have been reading me for a long time have followed my adventures through the Caribbean, Suriname, Belém do Pará, Japan, Cyprus and Korea. It was also a year of record readings. I read 105 books, 60% written by women. It is part of my job at Amora Livros. For 2024 I don't have much planned other than Carnival.

I know I'm going to visit at least one new country. I know I'm going to read a lot of good books. I know I'm going to have good times and bad times. It's always like this, and so be it.

Até a Eslovênia eu conheci em 2023 | I even got to be in Slovenia this year.

While I’m around, I will keep on sending you this newsletter once a month. I love sneaking into your inbox just to let you know I'm still alive. I wouldn't like to be forgotten. Part of what motivates me to write TravelVince News is my difficulty making phone calls, arranging online meetings or posting frequently on Instagram. I'm too analog and I'd rather wait two years to sit down with you in a cafe or restaurant and talk face-to-face.

Thank you for reading me in 2023. If you've just arrived, I promise incredible trips and interesting stories in 2024. I like mixing fiction with real life, after all, raw reality is very boring (and harsh). That's why I live between the lines, where everything is possible and words get the job done.
